Why We're Acrylic-Free — And Why Your Nails Will Thank You

When we decided to become an acrylic-free salon, we knew it would raise some eyebrows. Acrylics have been the go-to for decades — they're familiar, they're durable (at least on the surface), and a lot of people don't know what they'd do without them.
But after years of working with clients' nails, seeing the damage that dip powders and acrylics can cause over time, and experiencing firsthand the superior results from gel and clean polish alternatives, we made the call. And we haven't looked back. Neither have the hundreds of clients we've transitioned.
Here's the full story — and why we think your nails deserve better than what they've been getting.
What's Wrong With Acrylics and Dip Powder?
Acrylics and dip powder aren't inherently evil, but they do come with real trade-offs that most clients don't realize until the damage is done:
• Aggressive filing and buffing to prepare the nail thins the nail plate over time, making natural nails weaker and more prone to breakage.
• The chemicals in acrylic liquid monomer (particularly MMA, though it's less common today) and many dip powders can cause allergic reactions and nail bed irritation.
• Removal is where the most damage happens — prying off acrylics or over-soaking with acetone strips layers from the natural nail.
• Dip powder uses a communal powder pot (even when salons use individual pours, cross-contamination risk remains) and most formulas contain chemicals that aren't great for your nail health.
For clients who got acrylics or dip regularly for years, the natural nail underneath is often thin, peeling, and sensitive. This isn't inevitable — it's a product of the process.
Why Gel Is Better — For Your Nails and Your Beach Trip
Gel manicures have come a long way. Modern gel formulas are flexible (meaning they move with your nail instead of popping off), last two to three weeks with no chipping, and are applied with far less damage to the natural nail surface.
For a beach vacation specifically, gel is a dream:
• Chip-resistant — sand, sunscreen, and salt water won't faze it.
• Glossy finish that holds for the duration of a week-long trip and beyond.
• No drying time — you're out of the salon with fully cured nails, ready for the beach immediately.
• When done correctly with proper gel removal, your natural nail is left intact and healthy.
For most of our clients who come in requesting acrylics or dip, gel gives them everything they actually want — length, strength, color, durability — without the downsides.
The Dazzle Dry Difference
For clients who want the look of a traditional polish manicure without gel, we offer Dazzle Dry — and it has genuinely changed the way our clients think about regular polish.
Here's what makes Dazzle Dry special:
• Clean formula — Dazzle Dry is free of the most harmful chemicals found in conventional polish: no formaldehyde, no toluene, no DBP, no camphor, and no formaldehyde resin. It's also vegan and cruelty-free.
• Dries in about five minutes — no smudges walking out the door.
• Lasts significantly longer than traditional polish — up to two weeks with proper care.
• Breathable formula that's kinder to the natural nail over time.
For pedicures especially, Dazzle Dry is our top recommendation. Your toes will be in sand, salt water, and sunscreen all week. You need a polish that can handle it — and Dazzle Dry delivers in a way that conventional polish simply can't.
The Natural Nail Journey
A big part of what we do at Noe is helping clients transition to healthier, stronger natural nails. If your nails have been under acrylics or dip for years, they may need some time and TLC to recover — and we're here to walk you through that process.
We'll assess your nail health, recommend the right treatments and products, and create a plan to get you to the natural nail goals you didn't know you could have. Many of our clients who started this journey are now proudly wearing their natural nails with gel color — and they can't believe they waited so long.
